Black Fish (Tautog)

Blackfish (aka Tog) are not only one of the hardest fighting fish in our waters, but they are also one of the tastiest. Blackfish live in and around hard structure such as rock bottom, reefs, and wrecks. They feed primarily on crabs, clams, and mussels. For bait, green crabs, white crabs, and Asian shore crabs are used, either cut in half or used whole. Crabs can either be fished with a sinker rig or with a blackfish jig. It is recommended to use a 7 ft spinning rod for jigs, and a 7-8 ft conventional rod for sinker rigs.
